About Elengos

A trading company built on relationships, discipline, and the soil of the Southern Highlands.

Elengos Trading was founded to bring traceability and consistent quality to Tanzania's bulk produce trade — bridging smallholder supply with processors and importers who need reliability at scale.

Our story

Tanzania grows enough maize, sorghum, sunflower, groundnuts and cashew to feed the region — and to supply processors well beyond it. But the commodity trade between farm gate and buyer is fragmented, uneven in quality, and often opaque about origin. Lots arrive with moisture out of spec. Aflatoxin contamination is discovered after shipment, not before. Buyers re-source every season because last season's supplier didn't deliver consistently.

Elengos was founded to be the predictable counterparty in that trade. We work with sourcing networks we know, in regions we know, on a discipline that says: if the lot doesn't meet specification, it doesn't ship. That's a less glamorous model than maximum volume, but it's the one buyers come back for.

How we work

Four operating principles.

  1. 01

Source where we know the ground

We trade what we can verify. That means sourcing from regions our team visits regularly — the Southern Highlands for grain, Mtwara and Lindi for cashew and groundnuts, the Central Zone for sunflower and sorghum.

  2. 02

    Test before, not after

Aflatoxin testing, moisture, foreign matter, and broken-grain checks happen at our aggregation points before a lot is bagged for export. Pre-shipment certificates accompany every consignment.

  3. 03

    Build for the second order

Most of our buyers come back. We plan against their annual demand, not the spot market — which means longer-horizon harvest forecasting and tighter contract relationships.

  4. 04

Pay growers fairly, and on time

The discipline we ask of suppliers is matched by the discipline we owe them. We pay on agreed terms, and the share of the FOB price that returns to the farm gate is something we can defend.
